North Wales firm digs heels in for charity

Employees from St Asaph based chartered accountancy firm Sage & Co put on their walking boots last week in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Members of the team, including Sage & Co Director Matthew Gilmartin, took part in a four mile circular walk on Saturday the 5th September starting from Ty Mawr Country Park and continuing along the River Dee, Shropshire Union Canal and Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. The Sage team joined a number of other North Wales companies on the walk to help raise much needed funds for the well-known charity which will help enhance Macmillan services in the local area.

Macmillan Cancer Support is funded entirely through the generosity of supporters such as Sage and now offers a range of services including Macmillan nurses, doctors and other health professionals, cancer care centres and practical help at home.

Sage & Co Director Matthew Gilmartin comments: "With more than 4000 people diagnosed with cancer every year in North Wales we know how important Macmillan Cancer Support is to the local area to help people who are living with cancer which is why it has been selected as our chosen charity for 2009."

With £9 paying for one person to be helped by Macmillan CancerLine, Sage's fundraising in 2009 has helped over 22 people get some advice and help.

"We're delighted to be able to support such a worthy cause through this sponsored walk," he adds, "and have now raised over £200 for Macmillan through our activities this year. We're also organising a variety of other events to raise money for Macmillan including a coffee morning at the end of the month."
